6.11Contrary to the Newtonian approach, which refers to states in which motion of localised entities can be predicted
       (presupposing that the forces acting upon them are known) the Newtonian approach is only
       successful for simple systems or 'mechanisms' and not applicable to the organismic world –
       for two reasons:
       1: the investigated system can be resolved into an ensemble of mass points that remain
       essentially unchanged by the dynamic event, as is the case for protons or neutrons
       in chemical reactions.
       2: these particles interact on the grounds of external influences, such as impulse,
       pressure or some sort of field. Due to this, only external relations can exist between the
       components of simple systems. But since 'one set of external relations is as good as any other,
       there is nothing to evolve, and there can merely be change, purposeless and unprogressive'.
6.11 Anticipatory behavior is hard to deal with in the Newtonian framework.
       It is important to note that there is no final cause visible in this picture;
       finality is incompatible with science, insofar as finality involves the effect
       of future inputs, or future states.

6.14 The prevailing experimental conditions also constitute information that is processed and stored during the experimental
       procedure. For this reason the outcome of an experiment depends on the way it has been
       performed. On the other hand the organismic response to a sudden environmental change allows
       one to obtain information on growth conditions to which organisms had previously been subjected.
6.15 Waddington's epigenetic landscape is a metaphor for how gene regulation modulates development. One is asked to imagine
       a number of marbles rolling down a hill towards a wall. The marbles will compete for the grooves
       on the slope, and come to rest at the lowest points. These points represent the eventual cell
       fates,that is, tissue types. This idea was actually based on experiment: Waddington found that
       oneeffect of mutation (which could modulate the epigenetic landscape was) was to affect how
