analysis of changes measured in Baicut Bay (Palawan island, Philippines) coral and fish populations during 1986 revealed that (1) there was an annual decrease in coral cover of 1% for every additional 400 tons/km2 annual sediment deposition, (2) there was an annual decrease of one coral species (local extinction) per increase of 100 tons/km2 of annual sediment deposition, (3) fish biomass decreased by 2.43% for each 1% annual decrease in coral cover, (4) for each annual decrease of one coral species associated with coral-cover loss, fish biomass decreases by 0.8%;
