Hiatella arctica is not a tropical species as it is commonly found in the Carbonian limestone coast NW of C.Clare, Ireland. It is reported to have a mean boring rate of 0.67cm/a for three-year-old specimens and 0.5cm/a for eight year ones. It ranges from 0.125-1.0cm.
